History

Finnish Open has been organized for 19 times before. The first Finnish Open was held in Helsinki in 1990. The tournament has also been arranged under the names Finnish Open International and Finnish International Championships.

Between 1990 and 2008 the host city was Helsinki. During these years the tournament was played in Ruskeasuo sports hall.

Since 2009 the tournament has been organized in the neighboring city of Vantaa. The new venue is a modern sports hall Energia Areena which also hosted the European Junior Championships 2011. Due to EJC2011 Finnish Open was not played in 2011.
